WHAT MOVING AROUND THE WORLD HAS TAUGHT ME

Updated: Jun 10, 2020
I've been fortunate enough to have had so many unforgettable life experiences that I can now look back and see what my adventures have taught me as I prepare myself to move back to England once again.
Throughout my life, I've had the opportunity to live in some of the most amazing places in the world. Here are three things that moving around has taught me over the past years.

BE CONFIDENT
10 years ago, I had the opportunity to embark on a lifetime journey that would continue until this very day. I moved to Europe. To be fair, I had lived abroad before, but this time was different I was moving alone.
I was only 16 when I moved to Cambridgeshire, England. Everything was pretty new to me but I knew that my outlook on people and life would change for the better.
The first months were extremely hard on me. I was often homesick and the weather played a huge factor in my mood. I felt very lonely at first, but with time I learnt to be okay with it. I became confident.
The biggest lesson that I've learnt. You need to be confident because you can’t fall back on your family and friend that easily, so being able to rely on yourself is extremely important.
BE PATIENT
I am very much someone who likes to be in control of every little detail that happens in my life, and although I sometimes wish I could be more relaxed, the workaholic in me finds comfort in knowing that I have planned everything to the very last minute - but sometimes life happens and things don't always go to plan!
Take living in Germany as an example. I have lived in Europe for about ten years now and I had everything in my life outlined to the very last minute. In my head, I would live in Berlin, Germany, for the rest of my life, but things just didn't go as planned as I didn't manage to completely integrate myself with the German culture and I never really got the job that I've always wanted.
The 2017 Fernanda would have likely panicked by now but instead, this Fernanda calmly realised that moving back to England would be for the best option for her and she has learnt to embrace this change.
BE THANKFUL
I grew up in a very loving Brazilian household and the importance of manners was instilled in me at a very young age. Some of the most exciting experiences that I've lived abroad are engrained in my memory for the people I've met rather than the actual place itself.
It's recognising when people have the kindest heart that makes me so thankful for all of my past experiences over the years. Learning to be thankful for everything and to be grateful for everyone is something I try to use throughout every part of my life. Being kind is one of those priceless things in life.
I want to settle in England but I also want to travel more. To see places and culture I haven't seen before and to experience things that will continue to allow me to grow as an individual. To travel is such an amazing thing and I want to be able to explore it more!
